Gyro Nation, It was a great night for riding with clear skies and 80+ warmth. Once again we had a great turnout with 19 riders, and good energy in the air.
It was clear from the beginning that our strongest riders, Sean and Bryan, had an agreement to stay off the front for extended periods which allowed the rest of us to duke it out (yes, I said "Duke"). Big mistake. Most of us were in "wait and see" mode, and, did not go out on the attack even though the big 2 were giving us a long leash to do so. There was a slight break on Cheek, but, by the time we hit Hereford things had eased up enough to bring us back together. We rode together along Cheek, albeit a bit erratically, and went hard up Geer. We were a bit fragmented, but, by the time we hit Burton it had come together again. It was not until this point that anyone did what I am sure Bryan and Sean were hoping: attack. They were sitting back, and, it was Bert who went. But, no one went him! We left him in the wind, and, it was Tony who thought we should at least give Bert respect by chasing him, and he dragged the group up to Bert (nice friend). We worked hard up the Doc, and a group of 5 riders had a small gap on the peloton and made a quick turn onto Leesville. It was a good move since we got stuck waiting for traffic, and never caught them. I got reports from Dave and Tom about how that front group finished, and, it looks as though it was John who took a long, strong pull up Hickory Grove, and, eventually there was one rider who broke away from Tom, Dave, (there was another rider who they could not identify), and finished first. It is my guess that Lou was one of the 2 who they could not be identify , and might have been the one who outsprinted everyone. What happened to Sean and Bryan? They were being much too polite, and pulled off at Harrington Grove. Our chase group worked very well together all the way back, and, did come up on the tandem just as we hit Hickory Grove. Smith and Claude are riding very, very well. It is always impressive seeing how they work together, and how good they are. Once again our lead group broke 22. I am going to list this ride as finishing at 22.1 for the 31 miles, since our chase group was at 21.9. We are riding much faster than last year at this time...it will be interesting to see how fast we can go. See many of you Saturday, and all of you next week. -- You received this message because you subscribed to the Gyro email group.
