G's,
I have to be in Greensboro on Saturday - early afternoon - so I am going 35 miles. If anyone wants to join me you are welcome. My route http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3741624 Leave same time/place as A's Ed _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tony Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2010 8:06 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Gyros: 15420] 5/22 Weekly Ride Schedule! Gyrosians, Before I get into the ride shcedule I want to mention a couple of important pieces of new information. First of all, at least for the interim, we have reestablished the B ride thanks to Leslie and Diana who have both offered to lead this ride. I know that there are many of you out there who were disappointed that this ride was no longer being offered so when you see them, please thank them for volunteering. I expect that you will support them and this ride fully by coming out in numbers. They will add their ride information so look for their post. Secondly, I want to remind everyone that we still are doing our Mountian Ride which is scheduled for Saturday, June 12th. More details will come but I willl say that Bert has come up with a good plan for switching things up a bit. Instead of doing the 3 humps route, (Sauratown, Hanging Rock, Pilot), we are going to do Tour de Gaps but instead of 4 climbs there will be only 2. We'll spend much of our time on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's working out to be a beautiful scenic ride and do not be fooled by the elimination of 2 climbs. This will still be a challenging ride. Figure somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,000-7,000 feet of vertical climb for 64 miles. In any case, please stay posted for upcoming details as we get closer so MARK YOUR CALENDARS. (Btw, this will be a one day affair). Now for the ride on Saturday. It is getting more and more difficult to come up with "NEW" routes since we are no longer using Blue Jay Point and Pleasant Union Elementary School as starting points. (We all know how bad New Light Road is becoming). Why am I making it so difficult, you may ask. Well, one of the things I hate most about a ride, (besides the crazy drivers out there), is doing the same course/courses over and over again every Saturday. Just the usual ho-hum - sleep - yawn. So, to make things more interesting, we will try some new starting points to help us push further north and explore some new territory. This is in an attempt to keep our rides still within the 70-80 mile range without having to go 100 and over. Points being considered is the chruch on Red Mill Road just off of Geer and also the 2 churches on Bruce Garner and Rock Spring Roads. Both ideal locations and not too far driving distances. This will not happen every weekend but at least it will give us an opportunity to try something different and I think that is what sets our rides apart from all others. Exploring is part of the plan! There is no cue sheet for the route below so look at it carefully so you become familiar with the roads that you are not. See you all on Saturday. SATURDAY RIDE (5/22) (A GROUP - Tony/Bert) MEETING PLACE: Shady Grove Church - (Corner of Carpenter Pond & Shady Grove Roads) TIME: Saturday 5/22 @ 8am RIDE DISTANCE: 71 miles PACE: 20-21mph MAP: <http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3740710> http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3740710 NOTES: There will be hills where the climbers will be allowed to stretch their legs. OTHER NOTES: This one is important - WE RIDE AND WORK TOGETHER AS A GROUP. We encourage county line sprints. (A- GROUP - Kim/Ed) Information to come (B GROUP - Leslie/Diana) Information to come SUNDAY RIDE (5/23): 1. Kim's Recovery Ride leaves from Blue Jay Point @ 8:30am. (38 miles @ 17-18mph pace) 2. This is a CONTROLLED pace, and a DROP ride, so make sure you are able to average the above posted pace. All ride locations can be found on our website @ http://www.raleighgyros.com/locations.htm THE PLAN: One or more groups will leave with the intent of riding as a group at a target pace. We will try to cover the same routes, albeit a shorter distance for the slower group, so if you're struggling or want to ride at an easier pace, you can move back to a slower group. If you're already in the slowest group, the ride leader will check to make sure you can make your way back alone or with another volunteer. You'll know within the first 7 miles whether or not you're strong enough to maintain the pace. The general rule is that you should be able to maintain at least a 19+mph pace for the A Group, 18mph pace for 40-50 miles with the B+ Group or a 16mph pace for 30-40 miles with the B Group, when considering which group to ride with. If you can not maintain these paces, then it is suggested that you consider the C/B- Sunday ride. (Please refer to the link above). Each group should make a concerted effort to keep the group together but there will always be those who want to pick up the pace on the return. It is more appropriate to do this the last 5-7 miles of a ride. The short hammer sessions, that are always inevitable during our rides, will not be affected. To find out more about pacelines, please read the link below. http://www.raleighgyros.com/training.htm Thanks, Tony -- You received this message because you subscribed to the Gyro email group.
