I'll match the $20 as well. Can we get a Trek store gift certificate rather
than giving cash? We want to encourage Hal to get back on the bike rather
than use the money for frivolous items such as food and housing.... ;>

Dave has already started this idea and will be collecting money from the
attendees from the Monday and Thursday afternoon ride groups. You make a
very good point and we need to extent this to the entire Gyros group. At
this time we do not have officers or a treasurer. In the past we have just
deasignated someone to collect money and make arrangements. That is what I
did for Tony and what we did for the good samaritan when Brian went down and
she drove him back to the parking lot at PUE.
Great idea and I will match your offer of $20.00

Bert

Grey,
Thank you for the update. I, like many others, have been thinking often
about Hal, and hope that he is improving. He took such a nasty spill...
I was wondering if we could begin a fund for Hal; not because we think
that he is in need financially (I would not know this, and, it would not
be any of my business anyway), but, to use the money to bring him a care
package, fray the costs of the bike and kit damage (his handlebars were
bent, his shorts and jersey were torn, he needs new sunglasses, and a new
helmet), and, in our own way show him that we 'care'.
The care package would consist of functional things: food, drink, and
treats; and, it would include fun things (cycling magazines; crossword
puzzles; jokes; the arts, and, any reading material that he might like).
We could set up a date when we know that he is feeling better and have as
many of us as possible show up and present this to him (maybe a gift
certificate from Trek paid for by us that he can present to Matt to get
his bike fixed, and purchase his kit from Tony...).
Based on what Grey said about Hal "hiding", it is clear that now is not
the time to visit. When the time is right, would this be a good idea? I
know that when I had my accident it meant so much to me when Andy Hart
came to see me at Duke Emergency (I have never forgotten this, and will
always be there for Andy...it is a Sicilian thing), and, when Bert and Lee
visited me at home (once again, I will always be thankful). I did not
receive a care package; but, I wasn't beat up all that bad.
Feedback is welcome.
I would begin the Fund for Hal with a $20 donation.
Tony, who is our club treasurer?
