Gyromancers,

Ok, it's time to start getting a head count for our mountain ride Saturday,
June 12th. Please let me know OFFLINE who will be coming. Once I get a head
count, I'll post the list. The plan is as usual - we will meet at the Kohl's
Store at Brier Creek @ 6am. We will carpool to Mount Airy which is where we'll
park and start our ride. On the way out we'll have breakfast and then we'll
have dinner on the return trip. Expect to be home about 5-6pm.

Bert has come up with a cue sheet but we'll save that for later as we get
closer to the 12th. I will, however, show you the route and it's a good one
with lots of time spent on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and we didn't
forget the climbs either. The route is 64 miles and should include about
6,000-7,000 ft of climb. This will be a great training ride for those of you
who have other mountain rides coming up like the BSG & BRB.

Here's the route:

It's always nice to have a great turnout on these rides so please join us. You
know the old saying: "Misery loves company".

NOTE: This is a Gyro ride so wearing your colors is preferred.

Ok, on to Saturday's ride. I know that there are some rides going on like the
Tour de Cure and the 3MM this weekend and we wish those riders well.

Our A ride will take us further north for more exploration. Good news here
too. My close inside sources have told me that the 3 1/2 mile section of Range
Road from Enon to Moriah is freshly paved with nice beautiful smooth tarmac.
Oh, so nice! We'll be taking that section for sure. There is no cue sheet for
this route so please look it over and familiarize yourself with it.

NOTE: It is going to be HOT this weekend so we are starting early (7:30am).
Please be ready to roll.

Now for the schedule. (WAIVER IS ATTACHED)

THE PLAN:
One or more groups will leave with the intent of riding as a group at a target
pace. We will try to cover the same routes, albeit a shorter distance for the
slower group, so if you're struggling or want to ride at an easier pace, you
can move back to a slower group. If you're already in the slowest group, the
ride leader will check to make sure you can make your way back alone or with
another volunteer. You'll know within the first 7 miles whether or not you're
strong enough to maintain the pace. The general rule is that you should be able
to maintain at least a 19+mph pace for the A Group, 18mph pace for 40-50 miles
with the B+ Group or a 16mph pace for 30-40 miles with the B Group, when
considering which group to ride with. If you can not maintain these paces, then
it is suggested that you consider the C/B- Sunday ride. (Please refer to the
link above).

Each group should make a concerted effort to keep the group together but there
will always be those who want to pick up the pace on the return. It is more
appropriate to do this the last 5-7 miles of a ride. The short hammer sessions,
that are always inevitable during our rides, will not be affected.

Thanks, Tony
