Ok guys, you should know by now whether or not you are able to go Saturday
for our one-day excursion to the mountains.
Here are the details once more.
THE PLAN:
We will meet at the Kohl's Store at Brier Creek @ 6am. We carpool to Mount
Airy which is where we'll park and start our ride. On the way out we'll
have breakfast and then we'll have dinner on the return trip. For those of
you who need to get home earleir and want to skip the dinner, you should
be able to get home by 5pm or earlier. There are at least 3 guys who are
considering this option so maybe you guys can coordinate on whether or not
to drive together or separate.
We will meet Dave Campbell off of I40 at exit 161 since that is most
convenient for him and he is not backtracking to Brier Creek.
We will also exchange cell phone numbers. Since the climbs are done at
everyone's own pace, should anything happen to slow someone down on a
climb, like a flat or the heat, at least the guys waiting at the top will
know what is going on. Communication will be critical.
I have Bert, Dave Bender's and Dave Campbell's cell numbers. Mine is
919-616-9704.
Some of you have expressed the possibility of doing 3 climbs as opposed to
2. That is fine. If you are feeling strong and can continue another climb,
the suggestion is to ride down the last climb, turn around and come back
up. Since people need to get back early, the group will not wait. I don't
want this to hinder people for wanting to climb again. The rest of us will
wait for your return at the starting point.
Bert has come up with a cue sheet which I have attached. We will be
speding considerable time on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia so it
should make for a great ride. The route is 64 miles and amounts to 5200 ft
of climb. It will be very hot and humid so be prepared by hydrating now.
We will have one rest stop along the route. This will be a great training
ride for those of you who have other mountain rides coming up like the BSG
& BRB.
