Make sure you're buying the right size for you; consider getting a fit done at 
a dealer first. Also, make sure you're buying the right kind of road bike. Both 
Giant & Specialized make racing geometries and long ride (centuries, but not 
touring) geometries. The racing styles are very efficient, but will beat you 
up, even on shorter rides; the long ride styles won't be as snappy, but will 
spare you alot of abuse & make long rides more comfortable.
