I moved here last Fall, after living in the SF Bay Area for 25 years. 1998, 1999 and 2000 I rode & finished the Death Ride; Three 5 Pass Pins are amongst my most prized possessions. The article is very good, tho no text article can truly portray, or prepare you for, the ride itself. Until you've ridden, and finished it yourself........................... 129 miles, 16,000 feet of climb, all passes around 8500', the lowest elevation you're ever at is 5000', twice, briefly. Race caliber riders can do it in around 6-7 hours, fast club riders, 9 hours, took me a little over 13 hrs each time. 75% of all finishing riders were faster than I; 25% slower. You will learn alot about riding, and alot about yourself if you ride & finish The Death Ride.
