Up until a year ago I lived on the peninsula, South of San Francisco. For about 10 years I was a member of Western Wheelers, based in Silicon Valley. They also had an alphabetical ride rating system, with an A ride being very slow & E rides being race pace. One determined your rating by your time up a well know climb, Old La Honda Rd. Sub 18 minutes being E; the record by a pro roadie around 15 minutes. C-E rides rides in the area typically were 50+ miles with 5K elev gain. Quite a bit different than here. Not being a very good climber, especially these days, I like NC/Piedmont options better. Berry
