Maybe you need better lights? What's sufficient for pavement isn't for dirt. With good lights, you can ride at daylights speeds, no problem, on any trail.

Yes the ruts can be dangerous. A nice note about that is they have just resurfaced most of the trails in there lately so turkey creek is in good shape. If you're not bombing the trails and riding like you would in the dark, it should be safe especially if you're already familiar with the caution/slow down areas.
