I'm new to the area, but looking forward to both road and mountain
biking in the Triangle.

Must say that I was thoroughly disgusted by a group of about 9-12
riders on Brassfield Road in N. Raleigh today. We cyclists have a
hard time with our relations with drivers, and having ridden many
thousands of miles across the entire country I almost always come down
on the side of cyclists in the arguments that ensue. However, this
group I witnessed today is an example of why the animosity exists and
what can trigger the road rage idiots that create an instant deadly
weapon out of a car.

This group was riding 2-3 abreast all the way out to and even crossing
the center line, at a very leisurely pace (12mph approx.), carrying on
conversations, totally oblivious to traffic, and arrogantly making no
effort to narrow their group or acknowledge traffic on the road.

Geez people, like I said, I'm almost always for the cyclist in these
situations, but this was arrogant, rude and ridiculous. I've ridden in
groups from OH to PA to CO to CA to W.VA to NJ etc. and never seen
such stupid riding. But I have seen and known of serious carnage and
very bad stuff that happens when car meets bike. All it takes is one
drunken teenager or one road-raging idiot with a bad attitude toward
cyclists and there will be serious horrific consequences (as happened
on a club ride in Cincinnati where I lived 2 years ago.)

Car vs. bike--car wins. It's ugly folks. Please don't ride like this.

Thank you,

Phil
