Hey everybody! thanks for your support. Another one for the records # 7.
It was a beautiful day, as always I am all Slow twitch. The swimming felt
good but I think the salty water and the taste of boat fuel gave me GI
symptoms so I spent 25 minutes on T 1.
The bike was going great, I was pacing myself and at the halfway point (all
headwind) my average was over 19 mph, at the turn around with a tail wind
I was going at 21 mph but I hit "something" at mile 90 and my front tire
was down within seconds. No worry, by now I am an expert at changing flats
so after a couple of bad words I had the wheel off and the new tube in
place. The only problem is that the valve stem was 50mm and I needed an 80mm
stem. At that moment I could see Bert, Tony and Carlos giving me grief for
being so stupid. So I waited at least 25 min 'till some nice soul threw me
his spare tube with the proper valve stem.
The run was slow but steady, our friend Carlos "el chileno" was nice enough
to ride his bike with me for the first 9-10 miles. He got tired of the
snail pace, saw me trip and fall flat on my face while crossing a wooden
bridge around mile 7. He was a great help. But as you all know I am not much
of
a talker when I ride and/or run. Carlos kept telling me jokes and comments
that required an answer from me. He was a great assistance and the first 10
miles flew by. My wife Carol met me with 2 miles to go and she paced me
over the last 2 bridges, and we finished together.
It was another great and learning experience. I wore the Gyro colors with
pride. I did not wear my bibs because the front is not as low as the
"Castelli" bibs and it is difficult to use the woods when you gotta go.
I had to use the wood 3 times during the bike. In Switzerland I would have
been disqualified for urinating in the woods.
It was slow, but fun, glad to be healthy enough to go for it and I am ready
 for next year's.
My plan is to focus more on running for the next few months, do the Myrtle
beach marathon in Feb.
I guess I am still high on endorphins.
I need to work on my flexibility, when I am in the aero position I cannot
look straight out so my head is at 45 degrees so I can only see about 20' in
front of me. I think that is why I.ve gotten 2 flats with the TT bike.
Later guys, congratulations to Donna great achievement!. You Will do
another one.
Thanks,
Fernando

Donna congrats on finishing B2B, I was thinking about you all starting
out the day with some pretty cold temps and I heard the normal
positive effect of the current was quite the contrary this year which
makes your accomplishment even more special!!!! Hope you enjoyed the
day.
