Many of you attended the wine tasting Taylor and Gail Cash gracioulsy hosted this past year in honor of my sister Kathy. The funds raised benefited a special indigent patient fund for Hospice of Wake County and the only reason I made the decision to do an Ironman was for Kathy and this purpose.
I am vey saddened to report that Gail Taylor passed away on Sunday due to complications from back surgery. \ You drive by Taylor's Wine Shop on Six Forks as you venture to and fro to Blue Jay point and for many people it is the closest thing to a modern day "Cheers". And if you ventured in no doubt you've been met by the warm reception of Taylor and his staff while Gail was always buzzing around and doing the job of 3 employees. When I did my first Gyros ride 3 years ago I got lost (what's new) and made a stop at Taylor's waiting for someone to drive by with bike in tow and that person was Andy Greenwald. Being the coffee lover I am I realized they had a great selection and before you know it I was a regular drinking regular. One day out of the blue I asked Taylor if they would consider hosting a wine tasting for Tri4Kathy and without hestiation he said YES! It was my idea to do just a tasting but before I knew it Gail had numerous bottles of wine and other items for a silent auction and it was really then that I realized that this is one hellofawoman! We ended up raising $1700 in just 3 hours and I will be forever indebted to the Cash' for their generousity and love they have shown. Taylor and Gail just celebrated 30 years of marriage and 30 years of owning their store. In the same year they had been awarded the YMCA "Man and Woman of the Year" for their many charitable events and giving to an autistic camp for children which they feel great passion for; any time you see them having a BBQ it's for a charity.
