*This is a sample posting on the NEW forum ...*
The New Gyrosians, We continue to grow so I am posting this just as a reminder to those who have already seen this and, mainly, to our new members who haven’t. I am impressed with how well everyone is keeping the chatter to what’s important. I thank you and other club members thank you. *THE RULES:* Over the years, I have received numerous complaints about useless dribble over posts on the old googlegroup. “Too many unnecessary emails filling up my inbox”, is what I heard over and over. “What are you going to do about it?” Well, I get plenty of emails myself and don’t need any more of these in “my” inbox either – from members posting this useless dribble and/or from members complaining about it. So, read the following rules and abide by them. *RULE #1 - *PLEASE and, I do say PLEASE, *ONLY* post when you have something to say regarding the group and/or cycling related topics such as rides, events, meetings, showing up for a ride, not showing up for a ride, selling cycling stuff, racing, TdF, doping, etc, etc. Everything is allowed as long as it is *USEFUL information* either regarding the club or the sport of cycling. *DO NOT* post *TO THE WHOLE GROUP* things like, “That was awesome” or “I like that” or “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”. Well, the last one is ok but I think you get my drift. *RULE #2* - Be considerate to your fellow members. If you need an answer to a question OR responding to an email, *POST DIRECTLY* to the person you are asking or responding too and *NOT TO THE WHOLE GROUP* – unless you feel that the question is important enough that the whole group needs to know the answer to. If you don’t know how to reply to a person directly - ASK! If you are not sure whether or not to post to the club and you need clearance – ASK! Don’t worry if, in haste, you hit the send button if your intent was to send your reply to a person directly. We’ve all made that mistake. *RULE #3* - I don’t want to act as the Gyro Google Police as I have enough to do but, in addressing the problem of posting useless dribble, I WILL change “REPEATED OFFENDERS” posts to “MODERATED”. This move will allow the managers to view the post first and decide if it is worth sending to the whole club. I hate the thought of having to do this because it’s more work on our part as officers and managers but we will enforce this if need be. (FYI – ALL members are currently ALLOWED and free to post on this new group without any moderation). Please do not go so far as to have us take away your right to do so. *RULE #4* – Any personal attacks on another member will *NOT BE TOLERATED*! If this happens, you will be *BANNED*, not only from the googlegroup, but also from the club. I don’t see this happening on this new group as I pretty much know everyone and, as far as I can tell, you are all “sane” people. (er, some of you, I’m not too sure). Sorry if I sound a little harsh on some of these points but no one gets the brunt of complaints like I do and I’m not crazy about receiving them so let’s have fun, keep the chatter under control and have a great year of cycling while enjoying our new club. Again, any questions should be directed toward your club officers. I hope that everyone now has a clear understanding of the new googlegroup and what we all expect from one another. Thank you.
