They are resin dolls which are highly articulated.
The photos remind me of a doll my great-grandfather gave me when I
was a toddler. "Pammy" wore a size 6-months infant dress, and spent
most of her life in a sundress that I had once worn. Like most dolls
of the time, she had fully-jointed neck and shoulders, and limited
range leg joints - but she also had hinge-jointed elbows and knees,
and jointed wrists and ankles. Like many baby dolls of the time, her
"hair" was sculpted into her head and painted to look light brown.
Except that the joints were (painfully!) obvious to a 1960s-era child
(me), she moved very realistically (including weighted closing eyes)
and was relatively heavy for a doll of her size (about 18-22").
Some time around 1968, Pammy's hollow fingers started separating from
her hand. Dad fixed it with some dental sculpting material. It was a
joint issue, though, that made her unsafe for us to play with, and
Mom and Dad decided to "retire" her (i.e., throw her away). I'd never
seen a doll like Pammy before or since...
