I've tried this method, and the issue I have is that even the cap doesn't stay. I can be sitting still and within about 10 minutes the little bugger slides right off the back of my head, even if it's tied under my chin!

Do you have the "made from a square" early sort, or the later one with three pieces, which narrows down a bit toward the face? The latter might stay better. Also using a rougher fabric might help -- a larger weave linen, for example.

If it's any help, I used Margo's patterns to make mine, and it's the three-piece kind. I think the front edge is all on the grain so it doesn't stretch at all. As I said, I usually wear it low in front (a good 1/2 inch below my hairline) and tie it at the nape of my neck. So it actually holds to skin, not hair, in front. _______________________________________________
