Just an idea, but you might be able to find large-linked gold chains at
jewelers/merchants who cater to SCA customers. They're used as a symbol
of rank for members of the Chivalry (Knights or Masters-at-Arms). I
know there are a variety of them online, although I don't really
purchase much. If you like, I could ask on a couple of sca-specific
lists, though.

I'm currently trying for a middle class/Kampfollower portrayal... so
might not have as much in the way of heavy gold jewelry.
Also, I personally don't have the money to buy what I think will look
"right." I'm *always* on the lookout, though.
