Quoting michaela <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Yet another painting question. While I was cruising this web site, I
found
another painting that interests me -- it's on the
http://sayaespanola.glittersweet.com/inspired.htm
page -- 5th painting from the left -- the URL for the painting is
http://www.bildindex.de/bilder/fmlac10780_28a.jpg
I"ve been searching bildindex.de for 2 days trying to get some information
on
this painting -- and I can't figure out how to make it give it to me! I
suspect that it's a self-portrait of Lavinia Fontana, but I'm not
certain --
she is holding a paint palette and brushes -- and the eyes aren't right
for it
to be Sofonisba -- although it could be one of her sisters.
That's what it says;) (I put image information in the alt tags of the
thumbnails, so moving the cursor too quickly will not show it up;) )
Ah -- that's an IE only trick, I believe. Mozilla and Netscape (to my
knowledge) only display the alt= tag before the image loads. There are
javascript commands that you can make to a similar thing -- but that displays
in the message bar at the bottom of the screen.
Lavinia Fontana, self portrait, 1579 But I'll look on bildindex to see if it
cites the place it is housed.
Looking for it under Kunstler doesn't bring it up, I think I found it
originally via artcyclopedia.com .... hmm.. so I didn't.... I'll have to see
if a search will find it..
OK, the image seems to be hard to find, but I did find this:
Florenz, öffentliche Sammlung, Galleria Palatina, Palazzo Pitti,
Inventar-Nr. del 1890 n.1841
SO it seems the image is lurking in some area, or the links to the image
have been taken down due to copyright..
Ooh, I just found a new image;) Sorry..
I can't find it sorry. I'm sure I didn't do anything terribly complicated to
find it either...
Oh, don't worry about it that much -- you told me what I wanted to know.
Sometimes, you can google for the file name and find the original page -- but
that frequently doesn't work of the pages are dynamically generated.
If you've
got the text in an alt tag, I can just look at the source and pull out the
information.
Thanks!
Susan
