I posted a post about seeing the Gilbert Stuart exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in DC a little while back. I thought it pertinent because of the exquisite and detailed rendering of transitional fashions at the turn of the 18th century. But I never saw it posted..... I also mentioned a catalogue but couldn't remember if there was one. Well, I went back to see the Winslow Homer show [and the fantastic Van Dykes and El Grecos they have] and in the book store there is indeed a catalogue for the Gilbert Stuart show. I highly recommend it to those interested in 18th AND early 19th century fashions.
here's a tease.... you go from this: Catherine Brass Yates (Mrs. Richard Yates) and this: Catherine Yates Pollock (Mrs. George Pollock) to this: Sarah Homes Tappan (Mrs. Benjamin Tappan) and this: Ann Calvert Stuart Robinson (Mrs. William Robinson) and of course there's always this: The Skater (Portrait of William Grant) _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
