Subject: [h-cost] elizabethian corset

I just purchase a pattern for what I think is an elizabethan corset.
Butterick B4254. Is anyone familiar with this pattern? My question is
what type of boning do I use?. The pattern just say's "boning". I assume
that it's a plastic boning since you need to cut it to length.

Any suggestions as to type of boning or a better elizabethan corset? I'm
a plus size hour glass type figure.

I've used cable ties from the Home Depot, plastic bonig from the sewing store,
1/4" wide thin metal stays/boning and and 1/4" wide basket caning. All have
worked on my subtantial figure. And these have all been fully boned. I like the
basket caning best. It breathes, something to consider if you are in the
southland of anywhere.

A friends has also used cording on her set. They definatelly support her less
than mine do!

And let me know how these stays come out for you. They are on the top of the
pile for my next project. The shape looks good, for Am Rev War,/ Late 18th
cent, I have mara rileys notes on how to convert from BIG PATTERN COMPANY to a
more authentic construction, The pattern only cost me $1.99 and I want to see
how my abilitymeasure up (ha Ha) to the Big Pattern Company's professional
pattern makers and their grading skills

I'm thinking of only half boning them, and perhaps using one of those coil
steel bones across the top.

My last pair that I made, wool covered, bound with leather (chamois) came out
great I will be wearing them when our Rev War regiment return to Eng. and we
get to be "colorful replicas of England Past" on Staurda and Sunday, Sept.
10-11. in Lichfield Eng.
