Butterick B4254. Is >anyone familiar with this pattern? My question is

That patt looks like mid 17th c to 1890 to me. As Eliz died in 1603,
it's not very Elizabethan. I strongly suggest the Dorothea Sabina
corset in Arnold's Patts of Fashion or Drea Leed's copy of the
Elizabeth effigy corset. Both look remarkably different from the
models shown in the Butterick patt.

Also, fashionwise, "Elizabethan" covers a wide & varied span, 60+
years. Decide what year(s) you're doing before picking a patt.

I assume "plus size" means something like generously proportioned. In
which case, I'd steer you toward steel. It's all about the support.
I'm a small B and I use steel.

What's traditional? Whalebone, "bents" (a kind of swamp grass, I
think) and wood for the busk, tho I have some period commentaries that
hint variously at steel for either boning or busk. I'm currently
using a wooden busk for my very late Elizahoovian.

Someone else mention Corsets & Crinolines. Yes, absolutely. Good
material in there.
