I spent a good deal of Pennsic wearing my merchant-class Elizabethan wool gabardine dress with my linen smock, and was perfectly comfortable--so much so that I forgot my sunscreen one day and wound up with a sunburned cleavage! OW! Got the back of my neck too, which made wearing a snood most uncomfortable. The fabric is quite lightweight, but drapes beautifully, and I frankly adore the dress. I just need to tweak the fit on the shoulder straps a bit, they are definitely too long. And a friend of mine gave me some beautifully colored hand-spun silk thread to use for lacing--beautiful, soft stuff all in shades of blue and green that was PERECT with the dark green gown.
