Unfortunately, most dvd's from other countries won't play on US machines.

It's not too hard to find DVD players that will play discs from all
regions.
In other news, the BBC is considering making its programmes available
for viewing over the internet... next year. Initially restricted to UK
viewers only, but that could change as attitudes about "broadcasting"
move into the 21st century.
