6-ply warp; weft-faced satin; compound twill. may be patterned or unpatterned, or used as base for embroidery
when patterned, more than one color is usually present in the patterning
compound weft-faced twill in silk;­ may have developed in Egypt or Syria and spread from there;­ the inner warp used singly or in pairs or groups of three or four­; main binding warp bound weft in the same twill in both pattern and background­; design was result of color change not texture
