One of the most helpful friends I had help was someone who felt she
did not know much about sewing. Because of that, she would do exactly
what I asked. Sometimes it's a matter of finding someone who is
interested in learning or working with that particular historic process
rather than knowing modern fitting techniques.
I found someone like that in 1980, and now she's really good at it. Then
she moved 5 hours away, and we have to save our fittings up for the times
we see each other. By now we know each other's fitting problems, and
centuries, and what to do about it. She learned quite a lot, and,
actually, so did I.
