Thanks a good point Dawn. And I am making the partlet out of this outragusly great and wonderful black wool that my mom got for some suits. I made the stuff for her, and just *happened* to have some left over. when i got the fabric i had to roll around in it, it was so wonderful. Actually, I really sweated the placement of pieces because the fabic was like $30 a yard-worth every penny, but not something I would normally buy.

However, I am wondering if i should make the partlet out of one layer, and just make the inside seams as pretty as I can, or should I make them out of two layers and make the seems go inside? anyway have any insight?

Dawn Says:
I made one of a pants weight black wool and just hemmed the edges. It is quite warm and toasty as just a single layer. I was sweating in it indoors, but comfortable on a sunny February afternoon outside.

It's my belief that the black ones were outdoor or winter wear, and the white ones for indoors or better weather, and the sheer ones for 'best' wear.
