Here's a link to one page, with some pics, but more importantly, a
bibliography/source list. There's only one picture of John Brown,
and it's not very good, but you can make out some details of the
construction. I would guess it would be a fairly typical shape for the period.

The abolitionist John Brown was "famous" for wearing a brown corduroy suit
(pre-1859 when he was hanged). My husband wants me to make him one and I
have no idea what it would look like--the wales (wide or narrow?) , the
color/shade of brown, the stlye of suit, etc.
