So many good movies at this time of the year
I like "A Christmas Story". Although it is from a few years before MY time,
it seems to tell the story of My childhod christmases in the 1950's. I too was
dressed in a snowsuit that made me fat as a tick, Tinsel on the tree, going to
see Santa at a big department store and the displays in the windows. It just
seems to be all there.
In our house we watch all the Christmas Carols, the Muppett one a (a Muppett
Miss Piggy/Mrs. Cratchett is too too much), the old 1950's one with Alaistair
Cook, the newer one's with Patrick Stewart. It's always good, you can't really
hurt a classic. (which is why it's a classic)
This time of year they frequently play the movie about Handel writting the
Messiah. not good costumes, not really accurate, kind of painted with a broad
inspirational/religious/spiritual brush, but I still like it. Mainly because
the Messiah is one of my favoite pieces of music. But Handel was a pip, in a
true 18th century manner. He supposedly once threatend to throw a soprano out
a window. I would have loved to see one of the original 1700 performances in a
real 1700's theatre. Oh Bjarne, Can you imagine the clothing and the lights.
THe cloths we do now are only pale imitations of the real things (well not
yours)
