My usual workaround is to take the leaf out of my dining room table and
lay a sheet of glass (leftover from a picture frame) over the gap. I've
learned to put masking tape around the edges of the glass so I don't cut
myself. Then a table lamp under the table. I like being able to spread out
all my drawing equipment on the rest of the table!
