A fast cheap way is to get one thats pretty good... (thats more than
a piece of glass across an end table over a light) of these display
box frames. Target has them from 9x11 and larger... They have a
glass wood framed hinged lid and can be hung up on the wall for
displaying large items or a series of little 3-d things... I got
mine for $9 or so.
You can get (a cheap couple of tap lights for next to nothing or) a
small plug in florescent for about $10. Cut a hole in the particle
board back to pass out any cords, put on some rubber silicone feet.
Velcro or screw in the lights inside the case. TAH DAH!
You can tape some freezer paper, parchment tracing paper, or white
wrapping tissue paper to back side of the glass... you really want
some diffuser, even it's it's frosted contact paper for windows...
there are also sheets of ghosted plastic at the fabric stores for
quilting and stenciling... as well as art stores (sca people never
seem to go to REAL olde tyme art stores, just craft stores)
The whole thing can come in under $20 if you have a little time and
don't need a HUGE one. And most times you don't.
Other good ideas are finding a large frame and put two pieces of
glass with sheet of your diffuser of choice in between, and keep it
all in with the push down finegrs on the frame. Then go to the
hardware store and get some 3 or 4" screw on feet... just enough to
slip a trim small florescent under... this works nice as it can be
all slipped under a couch.
