You can make button with loops instead of buttonholes, or simple hook and eyes. This is what I was going to suggest. In "Fashion in Detail" there is a doublet with lozenge shaped buttons and loops....the cord also being used for decoration in a frog-like manner. And I seem to remember something about two rows of buttons [one on each side] that are used to lace a doublet closes....looping the cord around the buttons. But that may be just for women's doublet bodices....though I don't know why. And of course hooks and eyes are period as has been pointed out. You can sew a button right on the edge of the opening over each hook and eye. I would recommend a placket underneath.....and underlap of the fashion fabric to make any small gaps not noticeable. _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
