My Secret Santa, Justin Barrett, sent me a lovely
purse made from black silk with beautiful butterflies
on it and containing a very useful small pair of
scissors. Thank you, Justin!
My husband has given up on trying to find which
costuming books I want. (Despite the fact that I make
a list on Amazon for him.) He gives me books about
the period. Last year it was The Structures of
Everyday Life by Fernand Braudel and Power and Profit:
The Merchant in Medieveal Europe by Peter Spufford,
both of which are very interesting.
This year I'm looking at moving into Victorian. So he
gave me What Jane Austen Ate And Charles Dickens Knew
by Daniel Pool, Queen Victoria by Elizabeth Longford,
the Victorians by A. N. Wilson, Queen Victoria at Home
by Michael De-la-Noy, and Design for Tea: Tea Wares
from the Dragon Court to Afternoon Tea by Jane
Pettigrew. I think I'm just an excuse to run rampant
through the book stores.
My daughter gave me a book on Japanese Lolita clothes,
with patterns. I'd write down the title, but it's in
Japanese.
I hope everyone is ready for a new year of costuming.
Love, Kay
