I was there when they were shooting the movie. My husband and I walked out of our hotel across the little courtyard and into St. Mark's Square one morning, and there were folks in costume everywhere! We mused that it might be some sort of Italian "Renn" Faire (in another time period of course) or he even thought perhaps Venice always has people dressed in costume for tourists.

Shortly afterwards, we found out that they were shooting a movie. Took a few more days to find out it was "Casanova" and didn't realize it featured Heath Ledger and Sienna Miller until we arrived back in the states. I took oodles of pictures of the extras, there was one little boy in particular who was absolutely darling in his period attire, but who was constantly torturing pigeons by kicking at them while they ate. Face of a saint, though.

We took the tour of Casanova's cell and the Doge's palace, the day they were shooting scenes in front of it. It will be fun to reminisce since we watched a bit of the shooting. I did get a giggle out of everyone being in costume, what with me having left mine at home.... My DH and I will probably catch the movie on Monday.

I saw it, and liked it as eye candy. It's not a time or place (1753, Venice) that I know much about, but superficially the costumes seem OK (and pretty). I was curious to hear opinions about accuracy.
