Proper ones are still produced today on original forties and fifties machines. And are not cheap!! Cheaper ones are available too, made with the seam stitched in.
My nana had an old mending set that consisted of coloured matches with a special coating that mended the seam by melting it together (was quite hard to get right apparently). And when my boyfriend's nana died, and I inherited all her sewing kits, (some fabulous stuff in them), there were a couple of thread mending compacts, with all sorts of different shades of tan thread - so you could match it to the stocking. _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
