If it's a theater piece, a permanent hat, a one-time knock-off and/or cheap materials, I'll even use hotglue then cover the attachment point with a bit of glitz like a rhinestone pin, some beaded applique or passementerie. Careful with straw hats, tho the hot glue seeps thru & burns fingers.
