There's close-ups of braid in the early Patterns of Fashion book, but I don't think it's soutache. It really does look like braid made with thick thread, about like crochet yarn. To me anyway. The photos aren't exceptionally clear.
However, I have used soutache to good effect on a couple of doublets. You need miles of it and it is very cheap when bought in bulk.
