There is a pattern for a 17th century Italian chemise in the booklet "Cut my Cote" by Dorothy K. Burnham. It is much, much fuller than the Elizabethan/early Stuart chemises I saw at the Museum of London, and the one that Janet Arnold patterns in Waffen und Kostumkunde. It is similar to those very full ones shown in many 16th and 17th century paintings, where the ladies are dresses in chemises that fall off their shoulders.
