not an expert by any means, but it's possible.

most common effect from sunlight would probably be fading (can do that with 
modern colours too of course).

And black that was dyed using iron can be corrosive (see the embroidered 
jacket in the v&a where the black thread used is literally being eaten by the 
dye.
