What about something like

It does involve tight-fitting hose from the knee down at least, but it's
somewhat butch and knee-length, with a great gown (call it an overcoat!)
overtop.
Or this

which has gaiters on the bottom rather than hose. You could probably
get away with knee-length boots... I've seen this outfit done, and it's
so cool!
Both of these are from the mid-16th century.
