Another may be to place the offensive item in a bag or other container with
activated charcoal (like the kind you BBQ with) and leave for a day or two.
It works great for really foul odors, like that of a refrigerator left
unplugged with food inside for weeks before it was found. Yeah, that's the
only thing that worked when I was an apartment manager. I haven't checked
my kitty litter to see if it contains charcoal, but it probably has
something similar working for it.
