have not been very successful in finding information on the use of beaded accessories or dress trims in regards to those of European background for this time period - can anyone suggest some good references? I don't have much information--I had thought beads weren't much worn at all. However, Mary Boardman Crowninshield, at an event in Washington, DC, in December 1815, described "Mrs. Porter [wore] a black crepe bugled a quarter of a yard high." This is the only reference I've seen to beaded trim, though.
