I can't help you there, as I never transfer to paper. I keep the original
linen pieces. When I use them as a template, I iron them out and
straighten out the grain lines, and match them to the grain lines on the
new fabric.

I think I generally distrust the ability of paper to capture the nuances
of what fabric does; if you're off a little bit when you trace (because of
the fabric being a bit warped, stretched whatever) that's what gets
preserved on the paper, and you lose the information of grain lines.

I scribble all over my templates with a sharpie, labeling pieces, marking
waist and hip, etc.
