There are several images of women wearing French hoods where you can see
the ties. I have a number of images on my French hood research site

I have a few of Queen Mary as well, and the ones on the coins clearly show
the ties. I need to scan a few more of her from my books, but I have a
number of images online, and they are broken down by decade so you can see
the progression.
