Bjarne, the original poster was either teasing you or ignorant, and my bet's
on the teasing.
"Kid skin" is the skin of young, immature goats.  A reasonable substitute
might be chamois, if you can find it.  We can buy it here in the US in the
automotive care section of some stores, since it's used as a "cloth" with
which to dry or polish cars.  It's a thin, flexible, and relatively
inexpensive leather.  I've got some in my stash for the binding of a 16th
century corset, and for a trial pair of gloves, if I ever get my head out of
the 14th century and back to the 16th.....
