I haven't reenacted much lately, but three years back I was wearing
the stays I made 15 and 20 years ago. With the older set, I
reinforced the binding under the arms and repaired them a few times.
Yes, we wear them quite a lot!
I don't know how much your client will be wearing her stays. A dance
once a year, or 30 weekends per year, or somewhere in-between? I've
seen originals bound in linen tape (late 18thC) but I have not seen
any bound with silk.
