I was informed that at that time in Jewish history/customs. It was the groom's responsibility to make sure that there was plenty of wine. So, for Mary to be concerned about the quantity of wine implies some relation to the groom's side. For her to approach Jesus about it implies that Jesus is the groom or a possibility that Jesus was expected to pass on the information to the groom. Jesus taking care of it implies he is the groom.
The comment I believe is in reference to her doubting him. The difference of research and interpretation is that interpretation is usually the next step after research. It is said that the King James's translation is not reliable. There are several alleged translation errors. Though there are modern translations that are not reliable as several "progressive" Christians have added things to it and placed interpretation that sometimes is contrary to the original. Example: the original is "Let not a poisoner live", King James: changed poisoner to "witch" And a "modern" translation had "witch, prostitute, homosexual, murderer...(there was two more but I can't remember what they were. "In other words, you're not always following someone else's ideas." Not so much not following someone's ideas but their interpretation of the information gathered.
