I would recommend hidehouse.com. They are the originators of Napa
Leather. They have it all and it is here in the states. They are out
of California. This means that there are no extra charges to pay for
if you bring it in from overseas. Leather from Canada is really good
if you can get it but the last person that tried to get some had to
pay hefty fees to get it out of customs. Not sure why.

The lightest weight stuff out there is italian, neutofino. You will
have no luck getting it imported here as it is banned last I
checked.

Most leather are sold by the hide measured by square foot. Sometimes
you can purchase half or a quarter hide but you will know up front
if you can, they normall tell you or it is in the description.

Hidehouse like the other leather places also have deep discounts if
you have a tax id number. :)

Now if your in New York, wow! Go to the garment district. You will
be able to buy exactly what you want there and at a bargin. Some of
those folks will even let you haggle for the leather. :)

If you search the archives of this list you will find names and
places in New York of those leather folks. :)
