Oh, boyohboy, does that ever make me wince in sympathy!
About a decade ago, I had something similar happen, involving an embroidered
linen coif. The embroidery was done in red silk, and about the 5th time it
got washed (in Woolite...yes, I know better now), the dye in the silk cut
loose and turned the entire thing a spotty pink mess. I was horrified, and
couldn't even bleach it because of the embroidery.
What worked for me was a recommendation from a lady who owns a lot of
unusual textiles. There's a fairly common laundry treatment called "Biz"
that you dissolve in hot water and use to soak your items. I put my poor
coif through two separate soaks, and a good wash, and it's almost 100% clear
of the pink stain.
I think there's also something called synthropol? that Dharma Trading sells
for use in dyeing fabrics. I think it's good for removing vagrant dyes, so
you might try that, as well....
Good luck!
