If you don't like blogging why do you subscribe to this banal and boring
social and rather chatty costume list, and why did you choose to write this
rather long response?

I suggest you stop wasting your time here and begin working on that long
list of books you want to write.


It is not an insult if I express an opinion that you consider controversial, and which was in no way directed at you personally. I have no idea if you have a blog, but if you do I've never read it and so was not referring to it. It is not a personal insult if I say I prefer to read certain kinds of things and not others. I consider many types of books and periodicals a waste of time too. And if you disagree with me, it is not any valid kind of argument to claim you feel insulted or to try to claim I'm contradicting myself. And it's not a personal insult if I'm different from you.

I subscribe to email lists for information, not chat or personal relationships. I don't read most of the emails in any of them. And you're free not to read mine if you consider them too long or too boring or whatever. It usually only takes me a few minutes to write a page of nonpublishable material, so it's not much investment on my part. It's not as if I edit and proofread it, or otherwise try to produce professional work. If I wrote a blog I'd feel obligated to do all that and it would take much too much time.

Blog to your heart's content--it doesn't matter to me. I'm free not to read blogs. And you're free not to read my emails--that doesn't matter to me either. Filter them out via your email program or your ISP. I would be a better course than feeling insulted every time I disagree with you.

And yes, I'm working on writing a book today. It's what I do every day. It's what I've done every day of my life, usually including weekends, ever since I graduated from college--unless I was working on a magazine or a technical manual. I just think it would be inane to post about it every time I finish a section or something.
