The longer I was involved in costuming toe more interested I became in the people I had seen in portraits.
Who were their parents?
Why did they choose to be portrayed in a certain type of clothing?
How were they related or not related to their contemporaries?

Some of these questions can never be answered. But in looking for the answers I met whole new groups of people who became my friends. Some times people who are friends will grow in different directions. But eventually there will be new friends to fit in with, who may not have shared any common interests a few years ago.

In my case, it usually ended up circling back to a new area of costuming research. I think no one could have forseen the chain of researches that led from 16th century Spain to Bronze Age Celt. But every so often everyone needs a rest.
