I fully agree with all you said. I have no desire to set up a tagging
system so complicated that people either can't remember it or spend 10
minutes per post agonizing over whether the tag should be VICT: or ACW:
or 19C:. I think it would be a good idea to figure out exactly how
many tags people can easily hold in memory--I was thinking 4 at a
maxiumum--and then figure out what many topics and content people will
very very commonly want to filter in or out.

On the one hand I do like that the list is so chatty and a real
community, OTOH I would like an opportunity to more easily identify
interesting posts. The important thing is, as others have said, to make
any rules so short and clear that they don't discourage people from
posting at all.
